ILoveMakonnen Drops Mixtape Red Trap Dragon

ILoveMakonnen Red Trap Dragon

As the first major project to be released by  since ILoveMakonnen’s departure from OVO Sound, Red Trap Dragon should grow to define the rapper.

ILoveMakonnen first gained relevance in hip-hop with his glitchy party anthem “Tuesday”, which was streamlined and mostly popularized by Drake. Since then, the two artists grew well apart which prompted Makonnen to ghost-out on Drake’s OVO label earlier this year. Apart from the fact that ILoveMakonnen Red Trap DragonDrake apparently distanced himself from the rapper, Makonnen also felt the label did very little to promote his mixtapes. Before Red Trap Dragon was released, Makonnen announced that he had retired from music and would focus on his acting career. Although, now it seems that this statement has much less validity to it.

In any case, with Red Trap Dragon, Makonnen has the world to prove over his previous Drink More Water 6, which was arguably lukewarm (and still affiliated with Warner Bros. Records). With this tape, he needs to show both his fans, and those that have already slept on his work, that he isn’t just capable of a few catchy choruses.

And with frequent collaborator Danny Wolf, Makonnen introduces his latest effort. Like his other work, Red Trap Dragon has very few features—and so the only track that has a feature is the final track, “Loaded Up” which puts on Lil Yachty and Skippa Da Flippa. It’s not clear now how this mixtape will do, but if it has the unique ILoveMakonnen style and beat, it can’t disappoint.
