The West Coast prodigy will bless fans with a new EP before this summer is over.
Summertime ’06 – Vince’s debut double-disc epic gangsta rap saga – was a strong contender for the best hip-hop album of 2015, as well as one of the albums that put West Coast back on the map. A little over a year has passed since Vince released Summertime, but he is back already to leave his mark in 2016. Back in June, in a Fader cover story, Vince announced a new EP, Prima Donna. Now, Vince has announced that Prima Donna will be released on August 26th.
It will have production from DJ Dahi and No I.D., as well as everybody’s favorite British indie musician and singer James Blake. Previous Summertime collaborator Kilo Kish and pretty boy fashion killa ASAP Rocky are sliding in the scarce feature spots on this EP.
Vince rose from being an underdog in Odd Future to being a staple in today’s hip-hop scene thanks to his sharp mind, rebellious yet chill attitude, and a unique artistic vision that not many can rival. Though Summertime was already a very forward-thinking project, Prima Donna might be Vince’s most ambitious venture yet. According to Fader, it can be described as “psychedelic gangsta rap blues that you could play at 2 a.m. at an underground rave.”
